Who We Are

We are an open, diverse network of concerned citizens, including practitioners such as: physicians, nurses, acupuncturists, chiropractors, pharmacists, homeopaths, herbalists, energy healers, massage and shiatsu therapists, movement educators and traditional healers, as well as people such as: teachers, public health advocates, researchers, business professionals, parents, students and others seeking caring, competent healthcare. We welcome all givers and receivers of healthcare to join us.

The Integrative Medicine Alliance had its inception in early 1999 at a gathering called to explore the nature and needs of complementary and alternative medicine practitioners in the Longwood Medical Area of Boston, MA. Over 30 interested citizens and healthcare practitioners attended that first meeting, quickly discovering a common desire for an action-oriented group dedicated to furthering a vision of change.

Since then, the IMA has distinguished itself as an independent, 501(c)(3) grassroots organization, welcoming all people who dream of a more collaborative, people-centered, and sustainable healthcare system. We are interested in the integration of all appropriate therapies practiced by ethical practitioners for any given patient or client. We believe that the manner in which healthcare is practiced is as important as the actual tools themselves. We advocate for safe healing experiences that offer technical competency and competency in kindness, compassion, acceptance, spirituality and relationship.

We work to connect people and their ideas about integrative healthcare and to communicate through our Newsletter and with educational and networking events.  We seek to share stories of successful integrative care and to share dreams that people have of integrating healthcare.
